APPROACHING THE FINISH LINE!

This is the first year that Casa Circulo Cultural offered the Community Impact Scholarship Program (CISP).

The deadline for scholarship applications was Monday, January 9, 2017

The purpose of this scholarship is to help inspire and encourage High School seniors wanting to continue and complete a higher education, while promoting community service with high impact programs in our communities.

There is no gender restriction.  The top scholarship award is up to $10,000; all other finalists will receive up to a $5,000 scholarship. Applicants must either live or attend High school in San Mateo County; be university-bound with excellent academic credentials; and submitted a service project proposal and two letters of recommendation. All applicants were both paper screened and were invited to a “shark tank” project proposal interview.

On January 25th, 2017 a jury composed of community leaders (Cristina Corpus- San Mateo County Sheriffs Office, Olivia Aranda- Atkinson Board Member, Misla Barco- Professor East Palo Alto Academy, Luis Garcia- Teacher, Connie Guerrero- Community Consultant, and Irma Lopez, Business Professional) selected five finalists to compete for the most impactful community service project that addresses community need.

The 2016-2017 CISP Finalists are:

  • Nikos Maheras-Occhipinti - San Mateo HS, Project focus: ELD Peer Tutoring

The four finalists have had 12 weeks to execute and implement their proposed community service projects in/around their community. The deadline to complete the project is April 18th, 2017. The finalists will present their projects to a second jury composed of community leaders on April 19th, 2017, and select the first prize winner, as well as second, third and fourth place.

Please help us in congratulating the four finalists for this year’s Community Impact Scholarship Program 2016-2017! We wish them good luck in this last week to the finish line!

Noches de Casa Circulo at Angelica's

Join us Friday, 5 de Mayo to celebrate!!! as we are hosting a tribute to the one and Only Jose Alfredo Jimenez. This tribute is being performed by Artemisa Flores, Alfredo Gomez, and Rafael Turincio.

The main goal of this presentation is to honor and tribute the memory of the “Poet of the People” (El Poeta del Pueblo), who is probably the most iconic composer of folkloric “Ranchero” music in México. José Alfredo Jiménez-Sandoval was a Mexican singer-songwriter of rancheras, whose songs are considered an integral part of Mexico’s musical heritage.
